From a Kirana Shop to Srikar Masala: 26 Years of Flavour, Trust and Growth

From a Kirana Shop to Srikar Masala: 26 Years of Flavour, Trust and Growth

Every established food brand starts with a local relationship

Srikar Masala’s story began in 2000 with a kirana shop and direct interaction with everyday customers. Before there was a broad product range, online ordering or a dedicated masala facility, there was a simple focus: understand what families actually use in their kitchens and serve them consistently.

2000 - the beginning with a kirana shop

Founders Jayeshbhai and Kalpeshbhai started the business from a kirana shop, learning the rhythms of local buying first-hand. Customers did not speak in marketing terms; they spoke about taste, price, freshness, convenience and whether a product worked in their family’s recipes. Those conversations became the foundation of the brand’s practical approach.

From retailing groceries to understanding chillies and spices

As the business grew, whole chilli became an important part of the trade. Handling whole spices helped build experience around sourcing, varieties, colour, heat, aroma and customer preferences. Over time, the focus expanded from selling ingredients to developing a broader masala inventory for everyday cooking.

Building the product range step by step

The range did not appear overnight. It grew according to the food people actually cooked: chilli, turmeric, coriander-cumin powder, garam masala, chai masala, pav bhaji masala, stuffed-vegetable masala, snack seasonings, pickles and more. This gradual approach helped the business understand which products belonged in regular household use and which were more seasonal or occasion-driven.

2012 - shifting to the current place

In 2012, the business shifted to its current location, creating more room for operations, inventory and customer service. The move represented a transition from a small retail beginning toward a more organised masala business with the capacity to serve a growing customer base.

2020 - renovation with customer convenience in mind

In 2020, the premises were renovated with a glass-fronted, more organised retail environment. The purpose was not only visual improvement. The renovation was intended to make shopping easier and more comfortable for customers, with better display, clearer product access and a more modern experience while retaining the familiarity of the local business.

Growing from a local shop into a recognisable brand

Over the years, Srikar Masala expanded packaging, product categories and the way customers could discover the brand. The same products that once depended only on local footfall could now be presented through social media, digital content, recipes and an e-commerce website.

A wider range for modern households

Today, the Srikar portfolio includes everyday powders, blended masalas, snack seasonings, pickles and convenience-oriented products. The aim is to support both traditional Gujarati cooking and the way younger households cook today - from chai and stuffed vegetables to pav bhaji, chaat and quick snacks.

Taking the next step with online ordering

Digital ordering allows a regional food brand to serve customers beyond its immediate neighbourhood. Through the Srikar website and WhatsApp-led assistance, customers can explore products, understand recipes and choose masalas according to the dishes they want to prepare. This brings the original customer-first approach into a modern buying journey.

26 years, one continuing idea

From a kirana shop in 2000 to a growing masala brand in 2026, the journey reflects gradual expansion rather than overnight change. Stores, packaging, product categories and technology have evolved, but the core idea remains the same: make everyday food more flavourful and make it easier for customers to find the masalas they need.

The journey continues

Srikar Masala continues to build its presence from Keshod, Gujarat, while serving a wider audience through digital channels. The next chapter is about strengthening product discovery, sharing useful cooking knowledge, creating convenient buying options and taking familiar Gujarati flavours to more homes across Gujarat and India.
